Wow, let one person know that you're bailing out, and mayhem ensues.
I let my direct supervisor know just now. The politics of the situation here made that a really uncomfortable conversation. Just because I suggested in a meeting that we need someone with a bit more experience, knowledge, and project management skill to manage our department, doesn't mean I think any less of our current manager. I've ALWAYS thought she was in over her head. Well, regardless of the situation internally, she knows that my departure places her in deep doo-doo.
First: my partner Nyasha last week submitted his letter of resignation. The big boss came back to him and told him to think about what it would take to keep him here. Nyasha came up with a large figure of cash, and has not heard back on an answer yet. He's told me that he's leaning towards cutting the cord.
Second: the big boss has been interviewing MIS Managerial candidates. Probably means a drop in my current manager's pay level, at least, if we hire someone.
Third: My departure leaves a gaping hole, one that cannot be filled even in the short term by current staff. I'm not gloating, just stating fact: no one here knows how to create a new user account on the domain, nor how to build a new computer and put it on the network. These are the least of my duties.
All that leads to: I'm glad I'm leaving...it's gonna be seriously ugly around here. But if the big boss would have done his job and made sure his IS staff was on the same page, none of this (well, maybe some of it) would have happened.
"Cadillac Hummer?"
I heard this on the radio this morning in a car dealership ad: "Come to Bill McCann's Cadillac Hummer". Is it just me, or do should the words "Cadillac Hummer" only be used together by hookers and pimps on their "menu of services?" Hmmm.
